Auto post from WordPress to Facebook Page

Ever since the new Facebook timeline change, there has been confusion about how to make your new WordPress blog post, automatically post to your company Facebook page.

The old method of adding your RSS feed to the “Notes” app, doesn’t work anymore, and , I’m not a big fan of 3rd party solutions that add additional BS and redirection to your post.

Facebook in conjunction with Automatic have actually created a plug in together, but I’ll be honest, it’s so ridiculously cumbersome just to set it up to simply post to your fan page, that there is just no way that the average “non-tech” user will be able to get it.

Enter Simple Facebook Connect

Simple Facebook Connect lets you auto post to Facebook page and works with the latest version of WordPress (3.3 and up) and is a framework and series of sub-systems that let you add any sort of Facebook functionality you like to a WordPress blog.
This lets you have an integrated site without a lot of coding, and still letting you customize it exactly the way you’d like.
In other words, it posts to your Fan page!

How to Install

► 1. Install Facebook for WordPress either via the plugin directory, or by uploading the files to your server (in the /wp-content/plugins/ directory).

► 2. After activating the plugin, you will be asked to set up your Facebook app (via ), with step-by-step instructions.

► 3. You’re ready to go!

I know. I know. Setting up an app via Facebook Developers isn’t easy if you’ve never done it before.

How to set it up

Once you install the plug in, go to the settings and you will see that it asks for an “App ID”, a “App secret” and an “App Namespace”.

► To get that information, you’ll need to go to Facebook Developers and create an app.
► Once there, at the top left press the button that says  “+create a new app“.
► Create an App Name
► Create an App Namespace (these need to be original, all lowercase)
► Press “continue” and do the BS captcha thing.

Next you’ll see your app page with the information that you need to put into the plug in settings.

Scroll down in your app settings  to “Website with Facebook log in“,  and where it says “Site URL” put in your website’s URL, and press “Save Changes“.

Once saved, you should see your app information.  Go to the plug in settings and paste in the App ID, and Secret information that it asks for.

Entering your page ID #:

In the main settings you’ll also see “Facebook Fan Page“.  That is where you’ll need to put your fan page ID #, so that your blog will  post there.

To get your Fan Page ID #

► Go to the Fan Page on Facebook,
► Click the “Edit Page” link.
► The Fan Page ID number will be in the URL of the Edit page, just after “…/?id=” . Paste that number ( just the number) into that area in the plug in settings.

Scroll down to the “SFC Modules” and check “Publisher”.

That’s it!

Now, for each new post, AFTER you hit “Publish” you should see 2 buttons on the right of your WordPress Post editor below your tags, that give you the option of “Publish to your Facebook Fan Page” or “Publish to your Facebook Profile”.

Troubleshooting Tip:  If you are logged into Facebook as a page while you are publishing your post, you will not see the Facebook publisher button. To remedy this, switch back to your personal profile in Facebook.

Simple Facebook Connect also offers a wealth of other functionalities including:

► Implements OpenGraph tags, entirely automatically
► Comment using Facebook credentials (with Facebook avatar support)
►  Automatically Publish new posts to Facebook Profile or Application or Fan Page
► Manually Publish posts to FB Profile or Application or Fan Page
► Integrate comments made on Facebook back into your own site
► Login with your Facebook credentials, optionally using Facebook avatars instead of Gravatars
And much more.

Additionally, You can also set “Automatic Publishing” further down in the plug in settings in “Publish Settings”.

Update: Auto Post to Social Media Profiles

Since I’ve written this article, a new plug in has come to my attention that works even better. Not just to post to Facebook, but to multiple Social Media profiles including Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, Pinterest, Linked In and You Tube.
